Paleolithic remains of settlements along the slopes of the Duero and Tormes rivers are indications that the first settlers in the Arribes del Duero were the Vetones. They introduced the use of metals and the domestication of animals, and left a cultural heritage present to this day, such as the shepherds´ stone shelters similar in their circular shape to the Celts´ dwellings.
But not until medieval times did farming become established in the area, and vineyards, introduced by the Romans, become more common. Today, time seems to have gone by more slowly in Arribes del Duero,
with tradition being maintained in the face of modernization, as well
as a rich and valuable socio-economic, environmental and cultural
legacy, in harmony with nature. |

The ARRIBES DEL DUERO NATURAL PARK has a very beautiful landscape. It differs from other natural protected areas in that the human factor has been of utmost importance in the formation and preservation of the landscape. This is why it is so important to find means of maintaining the rural population and maintaining traditional land use. |

When we first moved to Arribes del Duero from the city, we -Sara and
Patxi- were intent on integrating and adapting to the area and its culture,
learning all we could from it. We made good use of the resources at
hand and decided to diversify into cheese, wine and other endeavors
. We have taken care to ensure the quality of our artisan production,
and obtained an added value for local products which has helped maintain
the local population and their life-styles in these marginal areas,
thus preserving the precious landscape and culture. This is our philosophy.
